Changes likely in technical education
A new law to set up a technical university in the State is expected to come up before the government for consideration, Minister for Education P.K. Abdu Rabb has said.
He was addressing a function organised to inaugurate a new block constructed for the Electrical Engineering Department of the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
Mr. Rabb said the government would introduce changes in technical education to equip students to tap emerging opportunities. He said industries would be encouraged to undertake research and development activities in engineering colleges.
This, Mr Rabb said, would help students acquire the skills for added employability, and become entrepreneurs.
Mr. Rabb also laid the foundation stone for the research block of the Industrial Engineering Department. Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor inaugurated the research park and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Women’s Hostel.
Director of Technical Education J. Letha and College Principal Sheela S were present.
