Thiruvananthapuram: Several Heads of Departments of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, as well as the Director of Medical Education, retired from the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College on Monday.

Twenty-nine senior members of the faculty in all, including one of the teachers from the Dental College, are retiring in the months of April to June.

Director of Medical Education (DME) and Professor of Gastroenterology Meenu Hariharan stepped down on Monday. N. Sudayakumar, who was the Principal of Kottayam Medical College, has taken charge as the new DME.

No guidelines

Meanwhile, though the Government had appealed to the retiring faculty members to stay on at least for another year on contract basis, it was yet to issue any guidelines in this regard. A chunk of the retiring doctors had enthusiastically reacted to the Government's suggestion and had even given in writing their willingness to continue serving the Medical College.
