The Rural Development and Self-Employment and Training Institute (RUDSETI) at Kanjirangad, near Taliparamba, here is all set to introduce courses in plumbing and sanitary works, food processing and bakery making.
The training institute is on a mission to make unskilled trainees in the region master the skills required for self-employment and entrepreneurship, its officials say.
What makes the mission exceptional is that the courses on offer are totally free. Over the past 27 years the RUDSETI, which was shifted from a rented facility at Kannapuram to its own one-acre campus at Kanjirangad last year, has trained over 1,000 trainees in diverse courses totalling 528 ranging from fashion designing to beauty parlour management, from photography to glass painting.
The Kanjirangad chapter is part of the RUDSET initiative, jointly sponsored by Shri DharmasthalaManjunatheswara Educational Trust, Ujire, Karnataka, Canara Bank, and Syndiate Bank. The beneficiaries of the institute, according to its faculty members, included women and youth, many of whom have become successful entrepreneurs.
The opening of a goat farm at Alakkode, jointly by four trainees who underwent the dairy and vermin-composting course at RUDSETI here, is showed as the latest example of the success story of the free training and entrepreneurship development programme offered by the institute.
The training institute offers a multifaceted training programme to enable the unemployed youth to start self-employment ventures, says its director P.V. Surendran.
He says the institute has offered a new hope to hundreds of unemployed youth to acquire skills in various ventures. The courses offered at the institute include garment making, computer DTP, phone service, business management, image editing, among others.
Those coming for training at the institute belong to the 18-45 age group, the Director says, adding the institute will also make arrangements for trained people to get loans from the banks for starting new ventures. The classes are being conducted by experts and resource persons in various fields. The course also includes field visits.
