The famous Nemmara Vallangi Vela, the annual festival celebrated at the Nellikulangara Bhagavathy temple here, will be held on Sunday.

The festival is considered only next to the Thrissur Pooram in the grandeur of its caparisoned tuskers, instrumental music and fireworks display. Nemmara and Vallangi are two neighbouring villages and the festival is a competition between the two. The biggest attraction of the festival is the presence of the 30 best tuskers in the StateIt is also a festival where numerous folk arts such as Kummatti, Karivela, Andivela are performed for days together after the flag hoisting at the temple.

The festival attracts people from various parts of the State and outside to Nemmara, which lies in the lap of the hills of Nelliampathy in the Western Ghats.
