A meeting of the finance committee of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race on Wednesday decided to hike the basic bonus of participating boats to 15 per cent and to disburse a sponsorship share of Rs. 3 lakh each to four snake boats that reach the final. Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR) Society chairman and District Collector N. Padmakumar chaired the meeting.

The first losers of snake boats categories will get Rs. 2 lakh each and second losers one lakh each. The small boats (boats other than ‘chundan’ or snake boats) will be given sponsorship share in proportion to the share being disbursed to the snake boats. The Kerala Boat Club Association, which had been reluctant to register their boats for the race demanding hike in bonus, has ended their boycott and decided to cooperate with the registration.

Date extended

The date for registration of all boats have been extended to July 27. So far 30 boats have been registered.

The captain clinic was postponed to July 29.Mascot selected

Earlier, the mascot for the trophy was selected by the committee. A kingfisher with an oar designed by R. Jayakumar of Avalukunnu ward in the Alappuzha municipality was selected from among the 47 entries received State-wide.
