Nedumangad taluk hospital will be upgraded as a district hospital with a bed strength of 400.

A Rs. 7 crore building will be constructed for the hospital soon, it was decided at a high-level meeting convened by the Health Minister V. S. Sivakumar here on Friday.

The outpatient clinics in the hospital will function till 8 p.m. and three new departments – Respiratory Medicine, Dermatology and Sports Medicine departments will also be newly started at the hospital.

It was also decided to create the posts of four Assistant Surgeons, 10 staff nurses, three pharmacists and two lab technicians for the hospital. A team of high-level officials led by the Health Minister will visit the hospital on May 29. The Karunya fair price pharmacy will start functioning at the hospital in the next phase of the project.

The meeting also decided to start a new primary health centre at Koliyakkode and to upgrade the Andoorkonam PHC as a community health centre.
