Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State vice-president Uzhavoor Vijayan said that the party's entry into the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would strengthen Left secular forces in the State.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, Mr. Vijayan refuted claims of a contradiction between the political stance of the Central and State leadership of the party. “The State unit of the party will stand by the LDF in all its decisions taken in the interest of the State,” he said. He added that they would oppose the anti-people policies of the Central Government.

Mr. Vijayan pointed out that the decision of the Left to induct the party into the LDF highlighted its commitment to fight communalism and terrorism in the State. He also expressed optimism that the LDF will exceed all expectations in the upcoming Panchayat elections.
