Kozhikode: An ocean sailing expedition undertaken by the 9 Kerala Naval NCC Unit stationed at Kozhikode set sail on September 24 with 30 Naval Wing senior division NCC cadets drawn from colleges in Kozhikode, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.
The expedition, named ‘Samudrika’ will journey from Puthiyappa Harbour in Kozhikode to Kannur making stops at Koyilandy, Kottakkal, Chombala and Thalassery. After reaching Kannur on September 28, the team will begin a campaign to educate the public on the types of fevers prevailing in North Kerala.
The aim of the expedition is to inculcate a spirit of adventure in the young cadets and develop in them a capacity to endure cramped living conditions in a boat at sea. The expedition also carries a theme of “Healthy Body, Wealthy Living” to public living along the coasts where stops are being made.
On the return lap which will begin on September 29, the expedition will halt at Vadakra on September 30 and take out an Anti-Plastic Rally. Four of the 30 cadets in the expedition are girls. The expedition is lead by Commander P.K. Sudhakaran. He will be assisted by Commander K.G. Sreekumar.
