Kochi: Rear Admiral S.S. Jamwal, Chief of Staff of the Southern Naval Command, has announced awards to the vigilant fishermen who alerted the authorities of a suspicious boat in the vicinity of Chavakkad, 30 nautical miles north of Kochi, on Sunday.

The tip-off led to the activation of the Joint Operations Centre (JOC).

The award announced comprises a citation, memento and a cash prize. “The vigilance displayed by the alert fishermen of Chavakkad is commendable and is a major factor in the robust coastal security architecture of the Kerala coast,” the Navy said in a media note.
