Navy's diving support vessel INS Nireekshak, captained by Commander Maneesh Kumar Bountiyal, will be deployed on Friday morning to search for the fishermen who had gone missing 15 nautical miles off Manakkodam, Cherthala, after their boat Don-1 collided with a merchant vessel last week.
Nireekshak, with saturation divers onboard, will set sail from the Southern Naval Command at 9 .am. on Friday to the location of the accident earlier identified by survey vessel INS Sarvekshak. Trained saturation divers of the ship will take the dive, using a special subermersible capsule called bell, to see if bodies are still trapped in the cabins of the sunken boat whose wreckage was located on the seabed 47 metres underwater. A team of naval clearance divers had earlier recovered the body of one of the three missing fishermen.
