KOZHIKODE: Mustafizur Rahman, Professor, National University of Singapore, and expert in micro-nano fabrication and metrology, inaugurated a three-day all-India workshop on "Coordinate measuring machines and computer-aided inspection (CMM)," organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C), in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers (India) Calicut Local Centre, on the institute campus on Chathamangalam, near here, on Wednesday.
N.M. Nagarajan, Director-in-charge, NIT-C, presided over the function. N. Ramakrishnan, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and an expert in micro-metrology; V.K. Suri, Head, Precision Engineering, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, and an expert in nanotechnology and nano engineering metrology; and R. Balasubramaniam, senior scientist, Precision Engineering, BARC, Mumbai and an expert in diamond turning and metrology, are delivering lectures on various topics at the workshop.
According to Jose Mathew and P.B. Dhanish, coordinators of the workshop, micro-machining and nano fabrication were technologies of the future. Both these required basic skills in metrology. Coordinate measuring machine and computer-aided inspection were key techniques in this area.
At least 60 delegates from industry and academic institutions were attending the workshop.
