Thiruvananthapuram: Yuga Purushan, a film depicting the life and times of social reformer Sri Narayana Guru, will hit theatres in the State on January 15.

Produced by A.V. Anoop under the banner of AVA Productions and directed by R. Sukumaran, the film chronicles the life of the guru and his struggles against social evils and caste hegemony. Dance sequences, humour, love scenes, conflict and human relations also find a place in the movie.

Apart from the guru, his contemporaries including Kumaranasan, Chattambi Swamigal, Dr. Palpu, C.V. Kunhiraman, T.K. Madhavan, Sahodaran Ayyappan, Ayyankali, Mannath Padmanabhan, Gandhiji and Rabindranath Tagore are played by actors in the film.

Noted South Indian star Thalaivasan Vijay dons the role of Sri Narayana Guru. Mammooty appears as K.C. Kuttan, a progressive thinker wedded to the ideals of the guru. Kalabhavan Mani, Jagathy Sreekumar, Saikumar, Siddique, Devan, Babu Antony, Salimkumar, Navya Nair and Kalpana also act in the film.

Ramachandra Babu wields the camera. Lyrics are by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiripad and music by Mohan Sithara.
