KOCHI: It was a flow of musicians from all parts of the State to Thripunithura that marked the State funeral accorded to Mavelikkara Prabhakara Varma who died at home on Sunday.

His disciples had reached here to pay respects to the mortal remains of their guru, who had only known how to give. A teacher wedded to music for his lifetime and yet was so humble with all his erudition in music and its literature. S. Sarma, Minister for Fisheries and Registration and Dinesh Mani, MLA, went to Prof. Varma’s home for paying their respects.

Veena maestro Anantha Padmanabhan; music director M.K. Arjunan; P.R. Kumara Kerala Varma, former principal, SST Music College, Thiruvananthapuram; Kalamandalam Kesava Poduval; mrindagam exponent Parassala Ravi; Malini Hariharan, former dean, Sree Shankaracharya University, Kalady; R. Rajalakshmi, Principal, SST College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram; Vanaja Shankar, Principal, RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Thripunithura; were among those who gathered at the Layam Ground where the body was kept.
