Thiruvananthapuram: The police are investigating a Muttathara-based gang in connection with the murder of an employee of a bar hotel at Eenchakkal on Thursday night.

Assistant Commissioner, Fort, C.G. Suresh Kumar said seven armed persons were involved in the attack. It was a sequel to a fight between a hotel employee and a person called `Kachi' Kumar at 3.30 p.m. in front of the bar the same day. The police suspect `Kachi' Kumar to have engaged the gang which carried out the murder.

The body of Jayan, the employee who was killed, was handed over to relatives after the post-mortem examination. The injured employee, Anu M. George, was under treatment at Medical College Hospital here.

Policeman assaulted

A three-member gang assaulted a policeman who tried to protect a fellow woman constable from being verbally abused. The incident occurred at the KSRTC bus stand at Venjaramoodu on Friday morning.

The police said Baby Daniel, a head constable, was assaulted when he rushed to the rescue of police constable Deepa. The gang members wrongfully restrained the woman constable and verbally abused her when she tried to prevent them from blocking a road leading to a nearby hospital. The police arrested Shamshudeen, Salim and Gopakumar on the charge of preventing the police from discharging their duties.
