MALAPPURAM: A freelance news photographer was attacked by activists of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) here on Saturday.

K. Mohammed Shameer came under attack when he tried to shoot MSF men destroying a hoarding displaying Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Manjalamkuzhi Ali, MLA. Mr. Shameer suffered minor injuries in his left ankle. He has filed a complaint against MSF men, who reportedly kicked him with boots besides preventing him from taking the pictures by stepping on his feet.

The MSF activists had taken out a march to the Collectorate in protest against the policies followed by the Left Democratic Front Government. While the protestors tried to break the police cordon in front of the Civil Station gate, another group of activists destroyed a hoarding announcing the opening of a new bridge across the Kadalundipuzha between Ummathur and Anakkadavu. They turned against Mr. Shameer when he tried to click away at them.

Indian Union Muslim League State secretary M.K. Muneer inaugurated the march later. Dr. Muneer had not arrived at the scene when the attack on the photographer took place.
