KANNUR: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) minority department has urged A.P. Abdullakutty, MP, to take fresh oath in the name of God if he has turned into a believer.

KPCC minority department president K.K. Kochumohammad said at a press conference here on Saturday that since the Communist ideology and religion could not go together, Mr. Abdullakutty should take fresh oath in the Lok Sabha in the name of God if he turned religious as was mentioned in his recent interview in a Malayalam daily.

Motives alleged

He, however, alleged that Mr. Abullakutty and some other CPI(M) MLAs were now showing their religious identity as strategy to grab votes of religious voters.

He said that the CPI(M) had taken disciplinary action against party MLAs M.M. Monayi and Aysha Potti for taking oath in the name of God.

This being a clear indication that the party followed atheism, Mr. Abdullakutty’s acceptance of religious faith should be followed by genuine steps to show that he was a believer in God, Mr. Kochumohammad said.
