Drawing attention to the need to improve train facilities in Malabar, particularly Kozhikode, M.K. Raghavan, MP, has demanded in the Lok Sabha that the Railways should upgrade safety and amenities by deploying more policemen, serving better food and ensuring proper maintenance of the compartments.

The MP also demanded, while raising these issues in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, that coaches of better quality should be provided in trains operating in the region, and complained that the condition of the coaches being released now for these trains was far from satisfactory.

Speaking from Delhi, Mr. Raghavan told The Hindu on Thursday that he demanded extension of the train 6517 terminating in Kannur to Kozhikode for better connectivity to Bangalore.

He also demanded a pit line at West Hill in Kozhikode, immediate commencement of Kozhikode- Thiruvananthapuram Jan Shatabdi express, introduction of Coimbatore- Kozhikode Inter-City Express with the rake of the Amrita Express and another train between Kozhikode and Bangalore.
