Steps have been initiated for clearing out people from plots acquired for the preparatory works of Kochi Metro Rail.

The move to evict people by serving warrants comes following expiry of time allotted to them to move out of plots. The occupants, including tenants on the plots at Banerjee Road, M.G. Road and the South Railway Station Road, will be served warrants from Thursday.

Majority had agreed to move out of the plot on receiving notices. Warrants will be served on those on those who chose to ignore the notice. Deputy Collector K.P. Mohandas Pillai, who holds the charge of land acquisition units for Kochi Metro Rail, said steps had also been taken to evict encroachers on the wasteland ( puramboke ) land along M.G. Road identified for the project.

Meanwhile, the State government has permitted filling up 230 acres of land at Muttom to be acquired for the proposed Metro Village. Verification of documents related to ownership of 41 acres identified for the Metro yard will be completed shortly. Distribution of compensation, fixed at Rs. 1.02 lakh per cent, will start soon thereafter.

Fixing of price for the land to be acquired for seven stations and three viaducts is also in the final stage. A meeting of the district level purchase committee to decide this will be held on the third week of this month.

The State-level committee had asked to apply the urgency clause for the acquisition of land for the widening of the Vytilla-Pettah Road through which the Metro passes. This will be notified soon. Steps to get administrative sanction for acquiring the land to set up the stations at Vytilla Mobility Hub, Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Maharaja’s College, Kaloor, and South are also progressing.
