KASARAGOD: A meeting of the officials of the Industries Department, Khadi and Village Industries Board, Mining and Geology Department and SIDCO held here on Monday has decided to cooperate with the local bodies in the district for the development of industries in the district.

Industries Minister Elamaram Karim who presided over the meeting said the Industries Department would take steps to attract investors to start industries on the vacant land in the industrial estates of the department and SIDCO. The industrial estate of the Industries Department had 100 acres of vacant land and the SIDCO industrial estate had 52 cents of vacant land, said Mr. Karim. A local area investors meet would be organised to attract investors, he said.

He said the work of officials of the Industries Department needed to be bettered to attract investors. The officials needed to attract investors and provide them all help to start industries. The Minister said individual officers would be given a target regarding starting of industrial projects.

The local bodies had funds for starting industries and officials of the Industries Department had the expertise. Both needed to be combined to ensure the industrial progress of the district, he said.

The Minister said steps would be taken to revive the industrial cooperative societies in the district which were lying defunct.

He noted that the State government had already made a proposal for starting a statutory body to identify defunct small industrial units in the State and revive them.
