CPI State unit secretary Pannian Ravindran has demanded that the Centre give up the move to drop agriculture sector from the ambit of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

Mr. Ravindran, in a statement here on Saturday, said the decision to drop agriculture and watershed-based projects from the scheme would have serious impact on the State. Providing even 10 days employment would become impossible and it would have a bearing on 27 lakh families. Those employed in February and March had not got their wages.
