Kozhikode: The Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Limited (RBDCKL) will collect fee from motorists using bridges at some places in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Thrissur districts from Thursday.

User fee will be levied for using the over-bridges at Vengalam, Vengali, Chengottukavu and Meenchanda in Kozhikode district, at Tirur and Muchikkal on Tanur road in Malappuram district and at Kullattungkara, Chalakudy and Chembissery on Mundoor road in Thrissur district.

All the over-bridges were constructed by RBDCKL after taking loans from Hudco. Huge interests on the loans were yet to be repaid, RBDCKL managing director R. Sreelekha said in a press release here on Thursday.

The user fee for motorcars, taxis, jeeps and pick up vans for single trip is Rs.5, for the return trip Rs.7.50 and multiple trips Rs.15. The user fee for light commercial vehicles is Rs.8, Rs.12 and Rs.24 for single, return and multiple trips respectively.

For buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles, the user fee is Rs.15 for single trip, Rs.22.50 for return trip and Rs.45 for multiple trips.

Scooters, two-wheelers and autorickshaws have been exempted from the user fee. Monthly passes can be had for a car for Rs.150, lorry and bus Rs.450 and light vehicles Rs.240. Ms. Sreelekha said there was a situation in which no new projects could be undertaken or completed by the Government unless the user fee was collected. She sought public cooperation in this regard.
