The Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF) has received a big boost with three of the country’s best-known businesses lending their support to the sixth season commencing on Saturday.

At a press meet here on Thursday, Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar exchanged Memorandums of Understanding with Vijay Menon, Regional Manager, Tata Motors; B Govindan, Chairman, Bhima; and James P Abraham, General Manager of Josco.

The Minister said two leading brands, Dalda and Carnival Group, are to partner the shopping festival as title sponsors of the Global Village international trade fair to be held in Kochi from December 22 to January 9.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will launch the sixth edition of the GKSF with a gala ceremony at Municipal Jawahar Stadium in Kannur graced by a host of dignitaries. The event will feature live entertainment shows by leading artistes.

The lamp-lighting ceremony will be preceded by a curtain raiser featuring 101 percussionists led by Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar. Other highlights of the evening’s entertainment show will include a musical fiesta by popular play-back singers.

The colourful vehicle that has travelled eight States as part of the GKSF national road show will arrive at the venue of the inauguration, marking the end of its tour. It was given a warm reception in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday by a delegation led by Mr. Chandy.
