The number of hepatitis A cases continued to rise, even as the Health Department authorities mounted sanitation and preventive initiatives, in the district.
According to district medical officer N. M. Aysha Bai, 23 more cases were reported at the centres under the public health dispensation system in the district on Wednesday. Of these, eight cases were from Velloor while one case was from Pala. While Vaikom taluk continued to top the list, hepatitis cases were being reported from all over the district.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has not been able to identify the sources and as such super chlorination of open wells, awareness campaigns consisting of people's representatives and ASHA volunteers at the Primary Health Centre level have been taken up district-wide.
