: More government employees reported for work on Friday even as the indefinite State-wide agitation a section of employees in protest against the proposed contributory pension scheme continued for the fourth day.

Minor incidents of violence were reported from some parts of the district.

Out of 167 employees at the District Collectorate here, 86 joined duty on Friday while 59 employees abstained from work. The remaining 22 employees had taken leave in advance, said N.P. Balakrishnan Nair, a senior official at the Collectorate. He said 65 per cent of the workforce at the Collectorate had reported for duty on Friday.

Of the 713 employees in Revenue offices across the district, 411 turned up for work, registering 67 per cent attendance.

With this, 1,009 out of the total strength of 1,725 employees in government offices across the district reported for work.

In the traditional Left stronghold of Madikkai and Kananur-Karinthalam, the villages offices remained closed. An agriculture assistant at Pilicode was reportedly assaulted by strike supporters.
