PALAKKAD: Top priority is being accorded to gauge-conversion works, Southern Railway General Manager Deepak Krishan has said.

Talking to the media during his inspection tour of the Palakkad Railway Division here on Wednesday, Mr. Krishnan said Rs.1,200 crore was allotted in two instalments for gauge conversion. More funds were needed to complete the works, he said.

The Palakkad-Pollachi guage conversion also required more funds. Once the Multiple Electrical Maintenance Unit (MEMU) work got completed, the existing passenger trains would be converted into express trains, Mr. Krishnan said.

The State government was required to provide 600 acres of land for the proposed coach factory in Palakkad, he said.
