Survey was held in Kollam West and Thrikadavur areas of Ashtamudi Lake

KOLLAM: A survey of Ashtamudi Lake by two teams from the Revenue Department detected more encroachments on the lake on Sunday.

The survey was conducted in the Kollam West and Thrikadavur areas of the lake.

Kollam Tahasildar R. Sudheendran, who led one of the teams, said that in the Kollam west area 14 encroachments and at Thrikadavur 17 encroachments were detected.

Most of these were small in size. The total area of encroachments detected on Sunday worked out to 1.10 acres, he said.

Notices under the Kerala Land Conservancy Act would be served on those who made the encroachments. The survey is being conducted on directions from Collector B. Sreenivas as part of a move by the district administration to protect the lake. During the survey on Saturday, 30 encroachments were detected. The survey of the lake would continue, officials said.
