Couple specialises in theme-based music concert
PALAKKAD: Singer couple from Palakkad, Sunil and Sunitha, are now exploring the possibilities of concept-based musical concerts. Recently, they presented a two-hour concert titled ‘Nilavu’ (moonlight), which was well received by the audience.
All the golden oldies were presented on a stage, which was awash with simulated moonlight. The concept was based on ‘Nilavinte Sangeetham’ (music of moonlight) of poet O.N.V. Kurup. O.N.V., on his part, was inspired by the ‘moonlight sonata’ of Beethovan.
The 25 songs presented, selected from Hindi and Malayalam, included ‘Chandran Udikkunna Dikkil,’ ‘Pathiravayilla,’ ‘Prema Kaumudi’ ‘Chanduvin ka Chand,’ ‘Chand Jaise Mukkade pe’ etc.
Sunil and Sunitha, who hail from families of well-known dancers and writers, were in Indonesia for a long time. They had a group called ‘Sahithi’ popularising both Indian and Indonesian music. In Indonesia, their concerts’ themes included flood and volcano eruption, both rampant in that country. Back home, they have revived ‘Sahithi’ with a full orchestra and intends to conduct more concerts based on ‘rathrimazha’ (rain in the night), ‘puzha’ (river) etc.
Now, the couple is getting ready for a music tour to Switzerland and Singapore. Their son Deva Prasad (Kannan), a primary school student, also sings with them.
