The bodies of the two teenagers who went missing in Meenachil river on Thursday evening at Parambuzha in Thiruvachoor panhayat were retrieved on Saturday morning.

Anandu,14, son of Sunil John of Puthuprambil House, Thiruvanchoor and his friend Deepu,16, along with another friend had gone to take bath in the river on Thursday. When Anandu slipped and fell into the overflowing river, Deepu tried to help him. But he too was caught in the stream. Their friend Shay, though he had fell into the water, had a miraculous escape.

According to the police, the two bodies were found floating in the river kilometres away down stream. While Anandu’s body was found at Vettikkad, Deepu’s body was found at Illickal, still downstream.The bodies were first taken to the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital and then handed over to the parents of the boys after completing the formalities.

Authorities had sought the help of divers from Kochi and Kollam Port for the search operation, which was hit by the heavy rain.

Anandu was a class IX student at MD Seminary HSS at Kottayam while Deepu was studying in Class X at St Sebastian’s Public School at Peroor.

Meanwhile, the body of Silmiya,18, daughter of Reghunath of Mudakkamthittiyil House, Thiruvanchoor who lost her life when she fell from a fibre canoe into a tank in the inundated paddy field near her house, was buried at her house compound on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred when Silmiya and two of her relatives fell from a canoe by around 11 a.m.

The relatives, Akhil,17, and Anjitha,16), were rescued by neighbours who had rushed to the spot hearing their cries for help.

Although Silmiya was rushed to the Kottayam Medical College her life could not be saved.

She was a Plus Two student in the Government Model Higher Secondary School in Kottayam.
