KANNUR: An ancient traditional lamp reported missing from the Arakkal Palace here on Wednesday was found in the compound of a mosque at the palace complex known as the ‘Arakkal Kettu’ on Friday.

The ‘Thampuratti Vilakku,’ kept in a chamber at the Arakkal Kettu, located near this town, had been missing under mysterious circumstances.

The police said the lamp was found inside the compound of the Salafi Mosque inside the Arakkal Kettu in the morning. A gunny bag was also found near the spot.

According to legend, the ‘Thampuratti Vilakku’ used to be kept constantly burning in the chamber inside the palace complex, once the seat of the Arakkal royal family that had ruled parts of this town for centuries.

Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) local office-bearers here said the lamp was apparently abandoned in the mosque compound.

They suspected the involvement of mischievous elements wanting to create trouble ahead of the KNM Mandalam conference scheduled to be held at the Arakkal Kettu ground from January 3.
