Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju has said that toll charges will be collected from the public for the proposed four-lane works of roads stretching from northern border town of Thalappady to Kozhikode.

The widening of the stretch cannot be undertaken without levying toll charges, the Minister, who was here to review the progress of the Public Works Department (PWD) works, told reporters at the Government Guest house here on Friday.

Earlier, no persons or political parties had any concern over levying toll for the proposed road widening works. Now a change in attitude by a few was not a healthy trend, he said.

The State government had asked the Centre to provide Rs.1,000 crore for the rehabilitation programme, the Minister said.
