Kozhikode: Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran will inaugurate the office of the Kuttiyadi Coconut Park on May 15. The Kuttiyadi Development Society (KDS) is spearheading the Coconut Park project at a cost Rs.41 crore.

It will offer land, infrastructure and other services for entrepreneurs to start coconut-based industries. The park is expected to revive the development prospects of the Kuttiyadi region, famed for producing the best quality coconuts in the State, by providing jobs. A detailed project report, envisioning the park, was prepared by Kerala State Industries Development Corporation (KSIDC) under the leadership of IIM-Kozhikode faculty member Saji Gopinath. KDS was formed in January 2009 with the support of coconut cooperatives, government agencies and coconut farmers. Work on the park had started with KSIDC support. Over 131 acres of land had been earmarked at the Manimala estate in Velam grama for the purpose.
