4.8-MW project to use waters of the Kadanthara and the Illyani rivers
Annual production to be 109.7 lakh units
Project will not harm environment
KOZHIKODE: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan will inaugurate the construction activities of the Poozhithode small-scale hydel project in the district at a function at Pashukadavu Little Flower UP School on Sunday.
Forest Minister Benoy Viswom will preside over the inaugural function. The project, with capacity of 4.8 MW will utilise the waters from the Kadanthara river and Illyani river, tributaries of the Kuttiyadi river. The project is aimed at setting up three generators of 1.6 MW capacity each and annual production of 109.7 lakh units. The project would be implemented on the ‘run of the river’ method without causing any damage to the environment or the natural flow of the river.
The construction activities for the project include a concrete check-dam of 59 metres across the Kadanthara river at Mavattom, near Pashukadavu, a 790-metre-long canal, 1076 cubic metre capacity forebay tank on the valley of Ekkan hill, steel penstock pipes laid for a length of 125 metres, power house and switch yard. The State government has granted administrative sanction for funds of Rs.29.49 crore for the project.
The electricity from this project will be passed via Poozhithodu-Kuttiyadi 33-kV Double Circuit (DC) line and received at the existing 110-kV substation at Kuttiyadi and distributed. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
