There was a mixed response in Ernakulam district to the high-level meeting convened by Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi in Thiruvananthapuram.

Member of Parliament P. Rajeev said that the Minister had promised to consider the overwhelming demand to revive the now-unused ERG station (also called Ernakulam Old Railway) located behind the Kerala High Court into a hub for suburban and MEMU (mainline electrical multiple unit) trains. For this, the Railways is expected to allocate funds in the coming budget.

The broad gauge lines that link the station with Edapally are intact and can ideally receive MEMU services proposed from Ernakulam to neighbouring districts.

The station building has to be renovated and the line leading to Edapally electrified.
