Stress on eradication of epidemics
Call for coordination between departments
District-level workshop on hygiene held
KOLLAM: Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan has asked authorities to ensure that schemes evolved for eradication of epidemics during monsoon are strictly implemented. “There is no room for complacency,” he said, while inaugurating a workshop on district-level monsoon time hygiene scheme and programme to control spread of epidemics on Saturday.
For the successful implementation of schemes there should be earnest coordination between local bodies, the departments concerned and voluntary organisations. Time-bound and faultless implementation of hygiene programmes should emerge as a permanent feature.
Mr. Gurudasan said that more than 3.64 lakh people have become members of the Health Insurance Scheme that has provision to meet medical expenses of up to Rs.36,000.
At the function, Mayor V. Rajendrababu read out the ‘hygiene message.' At the workshop the district heads of the allopathy, ayurveda and homeopathy medical wings stressed on hygiene as the simple but important requirement to check the spread of epidemics.
The public was warned that dengue fever spread not only through rats but through pets too. Timely vaccination of pets can prevent the spread of disease through them. Under the Arogya Keralam scheme, hygiene work will be carried out from the ward level. Each ward has been given Rs. 5000.
