PATHANAMTHITTA: Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs M. Vijayakumar inaugurated the valedictory meeting of the silver jubilee youth festival of the Mahatma Gandhi University held at Muloor Nagar (St. Stephen’s Cathedral Auditorium) on Ring Road here on Saturday.

The Minister said the enthusiastic participation of students in the youth festival was a fitting reply to those who opposed campus politics and failed to conduct the annual cultural event during the past three years.

Mr. Vijayakumar presented the champion’s trophy to Maharajah’s College, Ernakulam. Winners of the cultural competitions were given the trophies and certificates at the valedictory meeting. Roshan Roy Mathew, general convenor of the event, said 270 colleges affiliated to MG University participated in the festival.

University Union chairperson Dhanya Vijayan presided and Mr. Mathew welcomed the gathering. K.C. Rajagopalan, Raju Abraham, MLAs; K.K. Younuskutty, Pro Vice-Chancellor; K.R. Sankarankuty, Joint Registrar; K. Mathew, Sabukuttan, Syndicate members; Saramma Varghese, Catholicate College, Principal; Zakir Hussein, municipal chairman; K. Ananthagopan, Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary and Sindu Joy, Students Federation of India State president spoke.
