KOZHIKODE: Animal Husbandry Minister C. Divakaran would inaugurate the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Malabar Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union, P.P. Gopinatha Pillai, chairman, said here on Thursday.

The anniversary celebrations would be spread over two days beginning October 4. Union Minister for Agriculture K.V. Thomas would inaugurate a Milma dairy at Naduvattam at the inaugural function.

Mr. Gopinatha Pillai said Milma’s Malabar regional union had achieved considerable progress. He claimed it would be possible to create conditions in north Kerala to produce enough milk for the entire State.

He was also confident there would not be any significant decline in production in the State. But the possibility of the impending drought having an adverse impact on milk output in other States could not be ruled out, he added. Mr. Gopinatha Pillai said the success of dairy development programmes in this region was the result of a collective effort by the union, milk producers and consumers.

The Malabar Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union had already started preparing a plan for 2010 -2015 for improving the dairy sector in north Kerala.

P.T. Gopala Kurup, Chairman, Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation; Dr. D. Jayachandran, Managing Director, Milma, Malabar regional union; K.T. Thomas, General Manager, and G. Selva Kumar, Manager (procurement and inputs) also spoke at the function.
