THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The local chapter of WWF-India, in association with Warblers and Waders, a city-based environmental group, will organise an awareness programme here on May 8 in connection with World Migratory Bird Day. The venue is the Lenin Balavady at Vazhuthacaud. Topics to be discussed range from migratory birds and major bird-landing sites in Kerala to threats faced by the birds. On May 9, a team of birdwatchers will visit the Koonthakkulam bird sanctuary, near Tirunelveli, for field observation. The awareness programme on May 8 is open to all and the trip on the next day is limited to 15 bird enthusiasts. WWF-India said those interested may contact A.K. World Migratory Bird Day is a global initiative launched in 2006 devoted to promoting the conservation of migratory birds.
