The mid-day-meal scheme in many government schools is encountering problems because of paucity of funds, the Federation of Parents in Kerala has said. Teachers in charge of the scheme and PTAs are often unable to ensure the smooth progress of the scheme. Matters have been made worse by oil companies charging commercial rates for LPG cylinders. “Huge arrears are pending because payments are not made on time,” said Saji V Nair, general secretary of the federation.
