The term of scholarship has been enhanced from the current three and a half years to five years.

KOTTAYAM: The Syndicate of Mahatma Gandhi University, which met here on Thursday, has decided to hike the monthly scholarship of fulltime research students from the present Rs.4,500 to Rs.6,000. The term of scholarship too has been enhanced from the current three and a half years to five years.

The Syndicate has also decided to enhance the upper age limit for appointment of teachers in University teaching departments and the aided and government colleges affiliated to the University, to 40 years.

The meeting authorised the Vice-Chancellor to scout for an eminent professor to head the Sree Narayana Chair. It has also been decided to ask the School of Letters to finalise a panel of four eminent personalities to be considered for the Pala Narayanan Nair Chair.

The Syndicate also decided to take steps to institute a Konkani Chair at the University.

Two teachers who had awarded extremely high marks during the valuation of M.Sc. physics (quantum physics) papers will be summoned before an expert committee seeking explanation. It has also decided to forward the explanations by teachers who had abstained from the valuation camps organised for the first semester choice based credit and semester system to the government for further action.
