: The Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association (MTEA), attached to the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the 118th Maramon Convention, billed as the largest week-long annual Christian religious meet in Asia, that will begin on Sunday on the river-bed of the Pampa at Maramon, near Kozhencherry.

The MTEA, in association with the local parishes of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, has built a large thatched shed (pandal) on the river-bed that can accommodate about 1 lakh people. The members of the local parishes supplied men and materials for the construction of the pandal.

District Collector V.N. Jithendran said various government departments had made coordinated efforts for the smooth conduct of the annual meet.

The Police, Health, Fire and Rescue Services, and Kerala State Road Transport Corporation have set up temporary offices at Maramon and Kozhencherry.

The KSRTC will operate special services to Maramon from Thiruvalla, Mallappally, Pathanamthitta, Pandalam, Chengannur, Adoor and Ranni from February 10 to 17. All KSRTC buses will stop at Nedumprayar junction during the convention period.
