Delhi Metro Rail Corporation plans single lane traffic on road to facilitate construction
Kochi Metro Rail construction will take an important turn on Thursday — to enter MG Road.
The initial phase of the work will be carried out on the stretch between Chennai Silks and Abad Plaza.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to follow the construction method it practises elsewhere in the city. It means there won’t be a full stop on traffic, rather a single lane traffic wherever construction work will be undertaken.
About 175-meter-stretch between Chennai Silks and Abad Plaza will be barricaded for construction. Barricading along the middle of this stretch will start on Thursday. Piling works will follow later.
DMRC has taken care in the planning of construction works along MG. Road considering its status as one of the busiest stretches in the city. The idea is to intensify the initial works at the earliest before expanding construction works to other areas in the road.
Soma Constructions has been entrusted with the work along this stretch. Work along MG. Road had been planned months ahead of Onam.
However, the work was postponed after traders raised fears that work will turn away shoppers during peak season.
The work, however, is yet to pick up pace on the Banerjee Road that lies adjacent to MG. Road. Delay in road-widening has affected the progress of work on this stretch.
