The year-long golden jubilee celebrations of Mercy College, the only women’s college in the district, will be inaugurated by Bishop of Irinjalakuda Diocese Mar Pauly Kannookadan at the college auditorium here at 4.30 p.m. on Friday.
The logo of the golden jubilee celebrations will be released by District Collector P.M. Ali Asgar Pasha. The meeting will be presided over by Mother Sancta C.M.C, Superior General.
Mercy College was affiliated to the University of Kerala in 1964 and to the University of Calicut in 1967. It became the first college to be accredited by NAAC in the University of Calicut and secured an ‘A’ grade in the post-accreditation process, said its Principal Sr. Kripa C.M.C.
The college has produced Olympians such as P.T. Usha and M.D. Valsamma. Many State-level athletes had made use of the sports facilities of the college — its four-acre playground and eight-lane track, she said.
