Ahead of commencing the work on the 131-km-long National Highway stretch from the Karnataka border to Kannur, the district administration held a sitting here on Thursday to elicit the views and redress the grievances of the public relating to the four-lane project.

At the meeting, chaired by District Collector P.S. Mohammed Sagir, the people urged the authorities to limit the width of the road to 30 m against the proposed 45 m in view of the large-scale displacement of residents.

A few of them raised environmental concerns on account of the proposed felling of trees and mangroves dotting the route.
