Hospital will start functioning next year: Adoor Prakash
The proposed government medical college here will be set up at Nedumpara in Aruvappualam grama panchayat in Konni, Health Minister Adoor Prakash has said.
The Minister, accompanied by district panchayat president Babu George; District Collector P. Venugopal; Special Officer P.G.R. Pillai; district panchayat member Robin Peter; and chief engineer of HLL Lifecare Limited Solomon, was talking reporters during an inspection of the proposed site at Nedumpara on Saturday.
Mr. Prakash said 50 acres of land adjoining the 35 acres of land identified for the Food Research Institute at Nedumpara would be utilised for setting up the proposed medical college.
The Minister said government would explore every possibility to ensure that the medical college started functioning in 2013.
Nedumpara is situated around 5 km away from Konni town.
The medical college, once materialised, would be of great help in addressing the advanced healthcare needs of the people residing in the eastern hilly tracts of the district.
Moreover, the Sabarimala pilgrims would also be benefitted due to its proximity to the Achencoil-Pampa Road, Mr. Prakash said.
He said the proposed government medical college would lead to the overall development of Konni and surrounding areas.
