Doctors at the Government Medical College Hospital here have threatened to stage demonstrations and take out a march on Thursday in protest against the attacks let loose by a group which stormed the office of the college Principal, destroyed equipment, and beat up some employees.

The protest is being staged under the banner of the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association. Association secretary Muhammed Ashraf said the teachers of the medical college, junior doctors, and medical students would take part in the protest. Dr. Ashraf alleged that it was the government’s failure to take stern action against perpetrators of similar crimes committed in the past that had emboldened certain groups to attack doctors and hospitals.

The association warned that if the authorities continued to take a soft stand on such incidents, the doctors would be compelled to resort to agitations that would paralyse the functioning of the college and its hospital.
