Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran held discussions with representatives of ration dealers here on Tuesday to streamline the distribution of rice at Rs.2 a kg.

Seeking their cooperation in making the extended scheme a success, the Minister promised that the arrears due to the dealers (Rs.5.31 crore) for selling rice at subsidised rates would be paid in cheque this month.

Mr. Divakaran said ration card holders who had applied for rice under the scheme up to April 25 would get rice from May 1. Those applying up to May 25 would be given rice from June. The last date for giving application would be May 25.
