RRL scientist inaugurates celebrations
KOZHIKODE: G. Vijay Nair, organic chemist and Director Grade Scientist at Regional Research Laboratory (RRL), Thiruvananthapuram, inaugurated the golden jubilee celebrations of the chemistry department of Malabar Christian College (MCC) at a programme at the college auditorium recently.
Dr. Vijay Nair delivered the Prof. P.P. Krishnan Endowment Lecture on "Organic chemistry in action."
He presented the P.P. Krishnan gold medal and cash awards to outstanding students.
Retired teachers of the department were honoured on the occasion. Jowett Francis, president, Chemistry Alumni Association, presided over the function.
Gita Migael, Professor-in-charge; P. Venugopalan, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, NRI Branch, Kozhikode; P. Rajagopal, former president, Chemistry Alumni Association; and Percy Macaden, manager of the college, offered felicitations.
K.K. Devadasan, Head of the Department of Chemistry, welcomed the gathering. Mohammed Basheer, secretary of the alumni association, proposed a vote of thanks.
In a quiz held on the occasion, S. Praveen of Kendriya Vidyalaya bagged the first prize and Arjun Ashok and Adarsh Venugopal of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan won the second prize in the high school section. In the higher secondary section, M.K. Nabeel and G. Arun of Chinmaya Vidyalaya were the winners, with V. Janeesh and P. Hussam Ahmed of Himayathul Islam Higher Secondary School finishing as runners-up.
Praseetha Prem and P.J. Elsa (Little Flower College, Guruvayur), and K. Ramya and C. Ramya (Malabar Christian College) were the first and second prize winners, respectively, in the college level.
