Graft charges in Kollam Town Hall renovation work
KOLLAM: Senior Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran has called for the resignation of Kollam Mayor N. Padmalochanan.
Mr. Sudheeran said that in the wake of the Accountant General's report to the Government citing serious graft in the renovation work of the C. Kesavan Memorial Municipal Town Hall, the Mayor should resign and face a Vigilance probe.
He was addressing a meeting in front of the Corporation headquarters where the Youth Congress leaders were on a 101-hour fast demanding the Mayor's resignation and a Vigilance probe into the renovation work.
Mr. Sudheeran wanted the State Government to order a probe by a special Vigilance investigation team into the renovation work. He alleged that the Town Hall renovation incident showed that the day-to-day affairs of the Corporation were reeking in corruption and inefficiency.
The ruling side in the Corporation was not able to give a satisfactory reply to the graft charges in the Accountant General's report.
He alleged that the police was playing politics. That was the reason why Congress leaders and UDF Councillors in the Corporation were brutally beaten up on February 22 while staging a peaceful demonstration demanding the resignation of the Mayor. Mr. Sudheeran wanted to know what exactly was the Government's policy on looting public money by those in office. Congress leaders Karumalil Sukumaran, A. Shahnavas Khan, P. Jermias and Shahida Kamal also addressed.
