People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Bangalore serial blast accused Abdul Nasir Maudany will shortly undergo surgery for retinal detachment in the right eye.

Dismissing rumours that Mr. Maudany's health condition is deteriorating, Issac Mathai, who runs the medical centre where the PDP leader is currently undergoing treatment, told The Hindu that the surgery will be performed early next week as his vision is completely gone in the right eye. He was taken to an eye hospital on Thursday where doctors said he had to undergo the surgery.

As Mr. Maudany has been diabetic for years, his left eye has developed macular degeneration. “Otherwise his overall health is improving.... He is getting the best of the best treatment as per the court’s directions,” Mr. Mathai said.
