KANNUR: The election to the Mattannur municipality here on Wednesday was peaceful.

Eighty-three per cent of voters cast their votes to elect the third municipal council since its inception. The police, which had made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the polling went off smoothly, said no poll-related incidents were reported from any part of the municipality.

Sensitive booth

The police erected a barricade at the polling booth at Kallerikkara identified as a sensitive booth.

Though the polling was sluggish in the morning owing to heavy rain, it picked up in the afternoon. The counting will be held on September 7.
